@Calak: Why does he assume the alternation x ~ k existed in Iranian? Is Iranian k > Arabic x irregular? In any case, Old Armenian խանդակ (xandak) is attested very late and cannot be taken as a secure evidence of x in Iranian; it may well be an Arabic borrowing, as is usually assumed. I changed the language of the etymology to a more cautious version, but I am not convinced Iranian *xandak existed. --Vahag (talk) 13:47, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

@Vahagn Petrosyan Yes We can suppose that the old Armenian word has been taken from Arabic; but the problem is with Arabic because we can't explain Iranian k- > Arabic x- easily.--Calak (talk) 10:09, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

If we assume Middle Iranian *handak added by User:Irman (based on New Iranian hand, handak "moat") to be a valid reconstruction then it would be solved as h ~ x is a regular alteration here in Middle Iranian. --Z 18:10, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
