Etymology[edit]

@Tibidibi Hey! About the etymology of this word, I never encountered it before nor found it in any Arabic dictionary. The only hits I get are from Iraqi Shi'a websites and YouTube videos. The derivation is understandable but I don't think this word would pass CFI since it needs 3 citations from durable sources. — Fenakhay (تكلم معاي · ما ساهمت) 07:34, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Fenakhay Thanks for this! Digging into the issue a bit more, Form and Meaning in Persian Vocabulary by John R. Perry on Google Books says:
Other pseudoloans are more in the nature of mutations, being formed from genuine Arabic roots and reflecting plausible derivatives from these roots which, however, do not occur in Arabic. They include some very common "loans" whose pedigree is seldom suspected... šabāhat "similarity".
What do you think is the best way to format the etymology in this case?--Tibidibi (talk) 07:45, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Tibidibi: Thanks for that quote! I've edited the etymology accordingly by labelling it as a pseudo-loan. — Fenakhay (تكلم معاي · ما ساهمت) 08:09, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
