Cognate?

[edit]

@Angr: this looks related to ἐχθρός. What do you think? --Barytonesis (talk) 13:00, 3 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

I suppose it's possible, but I'm reluctant to take it for granted. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 13:11, 3 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@JohnC5 Do you have an opinion on this? --Per utramque cavernam 09:40, 2 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Per utramque cavernam: Yes, and to ἔχθος (ékhthos), though the relationship is difficult to pinpoint. They seem to be very much a sort of Calands-looking set, but Beekes thinks only ἔχθος (ékhthos) is inherited, going bck to *h₁éǵʰs-to- (outsider), though this etymology looks bad to me (why the -tos- ~ -tes-stem?). They are all definitely related, it is just a question of at what stage. —*i̯óh₁n̥C[5] 05:32, 8 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
