What does the "transliteration: cool" section mean? — Hippietrail 09:12, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I think it means this is the ateji used to represent/transliterate the borrowed English colloquial word "cool". [1]Muke Tever 13:52, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Ah that makes sense - I don't think it's clear enough in the article though. Ateji is the wrong word by the way - ateji is a Japanese concept but the sound is similar to "cool" only in Mandarin Chinese. I think it's different to ateji anyway, it's closer to being the Chinese equivalent of spelling foreign words using katakana in Japanese. Possibly just called "意译". — Hippietrail 11:55, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)
