電脳#Japanese and Chinese-ness[edit]

Discussion moved from User talk:Suzukaze-c.

Heya, I'd worded the usage note that way based on what the refs say.

KDJ:

中国語でコンピュータをいう。

SDHJ:

[コンピューターは]中国語では電脳と呼ぶが,日本語でも漢字2文字語が好まれる場合に,電脳ということがある。

This suggests not just "a strong connection with Chinese" (which wording, TBH, sounds a bit confusing), but rather that this term is perceived as Chinese. The usex given is also a specifically Chinese context, pointing towards usage of 電脳 as "Chinese" more than "formal", per se.

I see. As a counterpoint, I offer w:ja:Special:PrefixIndex/電脳, as well as usage of "電脳街" to refer to Seoul and Delhi at w:ja:電気街#脚注. IMO a major factor in usage is that it's artsy and cool because it's two Chinese characters.
On the other hand, I do see people at https://twitter.com [slash] search?q=中国語 電脳 surprised about the word 電脳, so I concede that "電脳 is Chinese" is also a fair statement. But there is indeed a good amount of usage in compounds at Google Scholar, so it's being accepted to a good extent (as noted by SDHJ and [1]), perhaps as a separate phenomenon (scholarly usage bc it's convenient vs. popular usage bc it's cool). —Suzukaze-c (talk) 02:29, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers, good additional data, thank you! ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 05:38, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Suzukaze-c, your recent edit comment "remove references to avoid putting words in mouths" confuses me. The references state as quoted above, which corroborates both that the term is considered Chinese, and that it is used in cases where short kanji expressions are preferred. Do you interpret the reference statements differently?
(I'm not upset, just confused.) ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 21:29, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Eirikr: I don't have the sources myself and don't feel comfortable with keeping them after my reworking. —Suzukaze-c (talk) 21:32, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

電子頭脳[edit]

電腦#Etymology (Chinese) dates 電腦 to 1965; meanwhile, Google Scholar finds hits for 電子頭脳 that are roughly of the same time or predate that.
