This is not a standard-use character for Japanese; Nelson's doesn't list it, nor do any of the other dead-tree dictionaries I have to hand. Moreover, looking up on Jim Breen's site or on jisho.org shows largely identical content, both missing any mention of the reading saba that our page has, and both listing a somewhat fishy meaning of "a type of herring" -- fishy in that both show a kun'yomi of iruka, which instead means dolphin or porpoise, certainly not a herring (unless it's red). Moreover, the Japanese Wikipedia page for ja:w:鯆 redirects to the page about dolphins (the mammals, not the fish).
Can anyone verify this character used in a Japanese text, and more specifically, can anyone confirm its use to mean "herring" or a reading of saba? -- Eiríkr Útlendi | Tala við mig 20:48, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Done, striking. No credible evidence for reading of saba or meaning of (deprecated template usage) herring -- this character is used in Japanese to mean (deprecated template usage) dolphin or (deprecated template usage) porpoise.
