usage notes

It seems too politicised to me. 그루지야 (geurujiya) is still current and more common than 조지아 (jojia) in S. Korea as the name of the country. We are dealing with words, not politics. They are synonyms and it's too early to say what the trends are going to be. Compare with Russian Молдова (Moldova) / Молдавия (Moldavija) and Беларусь (Belarusʹ) / Белоруссия (Belorussija). --Anatoli ^{(обсудить)} 01:36, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi Anatoli & sorry not to reply sooner, I didn't realise that I wouldn't get an alert over at id/en.wikipedia when my talk page here changed. Anyway I am new here so you can modify my edit however to conform to the local standards of the project. The important thing to clarify is that the synonym 조지아 is not in use in North Korea. Anyway my impression from reading South Korean newspapers is that most already switched their usages over the past two years (seems the request is from 2010 or so), following Yonhap's lead (in full, Yonhap usually writes "조지아(러시아명 그루지야)", while other newspapers don't mention 그루지야 at all). A minority are indeed sticking to 그루지야, like Chosun Ilbo. Cheers, Quant18 (talk) 08:40, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
