MLG term?[edit]

It was

From {{etyl|gml|de}}

where I first wanted to add {{m|gml|}} to display [Term?]. But sources indicate that it doesn't come from MLG at all.

  • Schiller-Lübben has plat (adj.) = platt, nicht erhaben = flat, plat (adv.) = schlechterdings, gänzlich, geradezu.
  • Lexer's MHG dictionary doesn't have an adjective plat, platt, blat or blatt although there is *blat said to be in blatevuoʒ from MLG.
  • Duden states NHG platt comes from NLG, from MLG plat(t).
  • Pfeiffer at DWDS among other things mentions Dutch phrases like "nl. in goede platten duytsche [...] nl. ik seggt uw plat, opt platte, wozu entsprechend nd. platt Adj. (17. Jh.) und substantiviert Platt n.".

So for the adjective platt it should be from NLG, from MLG, from Dutch. For the noun it should be Dutch or NLG, or maybe a NHG substantivization or shortening of terms like Plattdeutsch, platte Sprache, but not MLG. -84.161.26.109 03:21, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
