I have always perceived the word addle to mean something akin to "adulterate" or "spike" (as in "spike a drink.") Now upon looking at the defs I came to the conclusion that that might be an invention all of my own (perhaps perceiving it as a frequentative form (+ -le) of add) but writing "drug addl..." in Google I instantly got an autosuggestion and countless results (260,000 to be precise) to the effect of "drug-addled mind" and the like.
