Djinn and Djinni[edit]

I've always been under the impression that Djinn and Djinni are the singular and plural forms of the word, not synonyms. --71.84.65.222 21:36, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Originally djinni was the singular and djinn the plural (spelling varies of course because these are transliterations). Sometimes this is respected (e.g. the computer game NetHack uses the two words this way round) but I doubt the distinction is very clear any more. Equinox 21:40, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's unfortunate. Would it still be acceptable to have a note of that in the articles, perhaps noting it as an archaism or something? (the first comment was also me, sorry I do things on here very rarely and forgot to login) --Illumi the trow (talk) 07:13, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
