Question asked on loveline radio 03-03-2005: When did hurrah become hooray?

Mandarin[edit]

Can it be translated as 好哇 or 万岁 in Mandarin? 24.29.238.60 01:41, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology[edit]

"Each Turkic tribe and tribal union had its distinct ... uran (battle cry) (hence the Slavic urah "battle cry")." Wikipedia. In Finnish it's hurraa: is it from Germanic or Slavic (Turkic)?
