Part of speech[edit]

The definition given here for "invidious" is one that befits a noun, not an adjectice. Needs to be changed, e.g. "hinting or displaying a slight suggestion of prejudice", or something like that.

Invidious position[edit]

There seems to be no definition that relates to the idiom invidious position, nor is there a separate entry for that phrase. Cambridge's definition is noteworthy:

likely to cause unhappiness or offense:
  • We are not going to seek for invidious comparisons between governments."

I propose to latch this concept on to a modification of the existing sense "(obsolete) Detestable, hateful, odious.", which then can no longer be marked "obsolete" as a sweeping generalisation.
