Sense "barn swallow"

@Mar vin kaiser Just to point out where the sense of "barn swallow" came from, I can remember hearing it in a c. 2013-2014 episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho about the birds flocking into Philippine cities as they winter in the south. Langay-langay may be the actual primary name, but I would still say layang-layang is still valid (metathesis of Y and NG?).-TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 21:08, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

@TagaSanPedroAko: Here's a summary of all the sources:

1. Vicassan's - oustalet's swiftlet, Collocalia germani (which on Internet search is Germain's swiftlet, Aerodramus germani)
2. Panganiban - Philippine swallow bird, synonym of langay-langayan, which upon Internet search found in the talk page of langaylangayan, it's most likely Pacific swallow, especially the Philippine subspecies (Hirundo tahitica)
3. English - Philippine swallow, synonym of langay-langayan, same as Panganiban
4. Diksiyonaryo.ph - synonym of balinsasayaw, which is defined as "Collocalia" only in Diksiyonaryo.ph but a generic definition elsewhere.

In conclusion, I think the only definitions that we should put here are the Philippine subspecies of the Pacific swallow, the Germain's swiftlet, and the Collocalia definition. At least based on the sources so far. The episode from Jessica Soho I think can't really be considered a reliable linguistic source, in my opinion, because of technical terms like animal names like this, research done by the show isn't often that thorough. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 02:58, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
