Definition of sadism?[edit]

I'm confused about this term, since sadism means taking pleasure from others' pain, but if the horse is dead, it won't feel any pain. How did this term originate then? ThighFish (talk) 18:21, 20 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's made-up nonsense that deliberately plays games with etymology. It's probably not a good idea to try to make everything add up. Chuck Entz (talk) 06:38, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
The term doesn't refer to violence against an actual dead horse. "Beating a dead horse" is an idiom meaning to do something excessive and unnecessary. WordyAndNerdy (talk) 03:49, 4 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
