The etymology of shingles is being discussed on Wikipedia; numerous dictionaries give the etymology as from a foreign word for belt or girdle, referring to the rash. However, resemble a belt or girdle is precisely what the rash does not do. So, what is the origin of this etymology? --Una Smith 16:26, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

By the way, the Wikipedia article in question has been nominated as a Featured Article candidate (FAC), and is getting a lot of work. --Una Smith 16:28, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
