Etymology[edit]

The etymology says "Based on the snipe, a family of shorebirds that are notoriously difficult to hunt." But Wikipedia says [1] " an unsuspecting newcomer is duped into trying to catch a nonexistent animal called a snipe. Although snipe are an actual family of birds, a snipe hunt is a quest for an imaginary creature whose description varies." Based on my experiences, I believe that the Wikipedia interpretation is more correct. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:22, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
