Irish pronunciation ?[edit]

Is there an Irish pronunciation that begins like soup? I heard it from someone whom I didn't want to belabor about this and would need confirmation anyway. DCDuring TALK 23:03, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

There are Irish accents in which the RP /ʌ/ vowel is pronounced more or less as [ʊ], which is close to the vowel of SOUP. But it wouldn't need a separate entry in a dictionary because all of the /ʌ/ vowels are pronounced that way by them. Soap 18:28, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the explanation. Re: treatment: That doesn't seem to be the principle we follow with respect to RP/US differences. DCDuring TALK 18:59, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
