@Benwing2 I've seen this template used with |tag= (e.g. ბძგირი) and I have an idea of what it does but not exactly. Can this behavior be added to the documentation? Also, wouldn't this better be done on a per-term basis (using <tag:)? — Fytcha〈 T | L | C 〉 19:35, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Fytcha Apologies for the delayed response. There was a Beer Parlour discussion a few months ago (here: WT:Beer parlour/2022/June#Making it easier to add several descendants) that led to the implementation of these dialect tags. They are also supported for

- @Benwing2: Your change in Special:Diff/69619510 seems fine to me. At first glance it looked slightly unusual (I don't think we use [] anywhere else, apart from IPA of course) but I guess it's better than having two pairs of parentheses in front of a term. OTOH, we could also merge the tag and the qualifier in one pair of parentheses if both are present, e.g. if we have
- Lua error in Module:nyms at line 206: Use <lb:...> instead of <tag:...>
- instead display it as
- Synonym: (Akn, something) մըյներ pl (məyner)

- @Fytcha What you propose is in fact exactly what was formerly done, before I made the change. You can see what this looks like by going to [1] and previewing Template:synonyms/documentation. I changed it because it seemed somewhat awkward-looking when there are several dialect tags, as in the example; but maybe the old way is in fact better. Benwing2 (talk) 04:19, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Benwing2: Ah, I see, I missed that. Another possibility would also be to separate the dialects from the other qualifiers (within the parentheses) using a semicolon (or maybe even a vertical bar?). I'm just putting ideas out there, I have no strong feelings one way or the other but maybe @Vahagn Petrosyan who I've seen use this feature does. — Fytcha〈 T | L | C 〉 19:15, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
