Welcome![edit]

You now have an official Wiktionary log-in. I hope you enjoy it here as much as I have in the past. The general rule is to follow the official layouts on article pages, but not be afraid either to edit boldly or ask others for advice.

I have sent you below, the links I found most useful. However, I am rather out of date, so others may be able to show you better ones. In particular, I see that the following has appeared since I was active on the site.

How we can handle Adangme words authoritatively[edit]

You want to add some Adangme/Dangme (code ada in both ISO 639-2 and ISO 639-3) words to the Engish wikipedia. Normally, when one person adds words to Wikt, another person who is familiar with the word "patrols" it and checks the definitions, etc are reasonable. Our problem is that, although we have two native Adangme speakers in the family, neither of us speak it, I doubt anyone else on the en.wikt does, and there is no ada.wikt (or even an ada.'pedia) to ask for advice.

However, Adangme shares a similar position in Ghana to Welsh in UK -- in both countries the official language is English, and in Ghana Dangwe is an officially sponsored language spoken by about 800,000 people in Ghana, while in UK, Welsh is spoken by slightly fewer people. It is therefore reasonable to include Adangme translations in en.wikt, but we need to be particularly careful to avoid mistakes.

When you add a word found in a document, eg in Wikiversity's Dangme page, I will therefore take responsibility for checking it "in house" with one of our native speakers. If you add a word suggested by one of those speakers, I will check it with the other. --Enginear 21:01, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
