Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wiktionary. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk (discussion) and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~, which automatically produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to one of the discussion rooms or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Mutante 22:58, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personal templates[edit]

Please don't create templates for your own personal use. It just creates too much clutter. (and what's wrong with four tildes?) SemperBlotto 07:40, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm yeah, I thought it would be a problem... Sorry, won't do it again. ~> SilvioRicardoC 14:48, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a very minor thing about formatting: We use {{term}} for linking words in running texts, such as etymologies, and {{l}} in lists, such as related terms. {{term}} automatically italicizes. Thanks. -Atelaes λάλει ἐμοί 18:27, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks. Do you know of any page with this kind of information? Or people usually learn this by making a bunch of mistakes? (BTW, I still haven't read some of the beginner's pages, so I might have skipped this "basic templates for newbies" one...) ~> SilvioRicardoC 23:34, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To tell you the truth, it's usually the latter. Since we have a fairly small community, and can communicate things to each other efficiently through word of mouth, and since we're constantly trying to figure out better ways to do things, documentation is sparse. Generally, though, there are plenty of people to yell at you, so just keep plugging away. :-) However, your entries looked squeaky clean, aside from the previously noted issue. -Atelaes λάλει ἐμοί 02:40, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
