A few questions on Importing[edit]

Hi, I'm asking you this based on a comment I noticed at Wikipedia:User_talk:QuartierLatin1968#en.wiktionary_says_hello. Is Importing from wikipedia being done currently here on a regular basis? We have a list of hundreds of articles which have been tagged to be transwikied here, which, by the way, has been moved to a different category on wikipedia, and is now at Wikipedia:Category:Copy_to_Wiktionary. And, if this Import function is used, is the transwiki process completed on the wikipedia side? That is, is the transwiki tag removed, and is a notation being left on the wikipedia transwiki log? I have no wiktionary account, I am Wikipedia:User:Xyzzyplugh.

Ok, thanks for checking up on this for me. My concern is that if Wiktionary admins import articles, but don't make any changes on the wikipedia side (removing the transwiki tag and adding a link to the wikipedia transwiki log) this will cause a variety of problems. I'll ask User:Connel MacKenzie about this as you suggested. Wikipedia:User:Xyzzyplugh 23:21, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why delete my word?[edit]

Why did you delete my fledgling word?

Dan

This dictionary has a set criteria for inclusion, which excludes protologisms. We have a list of protologisms if you wish to include it there, but seeing as it was coined by you today, I don't see how it can meet the broad usage over at least 1 year criteria. - TheDaveRoss 02:05, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

acabare[edit]

Your bot made a mistake - subjunctve instead of subjunctive --86.133.50.15 10:11, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

As do a few more here --(P) 21:57, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Another common tpyo[edit]

Thanks for cleaning up "subjunctve". Another common typo I see that a bot could handle is "genetive" for "genitive". --EncycloPetey 23:22, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Linking to Heat 13[edit]

Hi, I was trying to create a link to the 13th meaning of "heat" in Wiktionary (by using the html code: , for an anchor) when I got reverted by you. Am I allowed to do that? The problem is that if I merely refer a reader to the "heat" page, they might not be able to figure out which usage I'm referring to. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Check User[edit]

Hello TheDaveRoss, you are now Check User for this wiki. Please subscribe to checkuser-l and email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know that you are allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information). Thank you. --12.3.196.1 10:33, 17 November 2006 (UTC) m:User:Paginazero not loggedReply

Ok, I've added you to the list. Something that's bugging me (and that you've got the power to fix!) - on the user list, "checkuser" doesn't link anywhere. To fix that, edit MediaWiki:Grouppage-checkuser and insert
m:CheckUser policy
which will then link to m:CheckUser policy. Thanks, Alphax 00:08, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Italicize words-as-words[edit]

I see your bot added a bunch of conjugated Spanish verbs back in September. Unfortunately, the way I see it, all the definitions need to be changed to use italics when referring to the infinitive form of the verbs (since it's the words themselves that are being referred to). See this edit of mine for an example of what I mean. Could you modify your bot to make these changes? - dcljr 23:49, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

You asked why italics are needed. See w:Italic type#Italics are used for and w:Use-mention distinction for background info. Basically, in the definitions you're using a word (the infinitive form of the verb) to refer to the word itself, as opposed to its meaning; italic type is commonly used to indicate this (example: "cows has four letters" versus "cows have four legs"). Plus, it's common practice to italicize foreign words in English text, anyway. So there are two justifications for you... <g> - dcljr 01:03, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I guess you've decided not to do this? I still think it's a good idea, so I've posted in the Beer Parlour to get other people's opinions. - dcljr 17:15, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Davebot working for Greek[edit]

Hello, I'm currently working on the Ancient Greek section of Wiktionary, and I've been dreaming of a bot to work for us in a similar fashion to what TheDaveBot is doing for Spanish. Ancient Greek has a ridiculous number of verb forms (and quite a few noun forms as well), for example see φιλέω (the inflection is hidden, hit the show button). Sadly, I have absolutely no programming expertise. I was wondering if you knew of a place where I could learn to program a bot to do what yours is doing. Or if it would be easy to get a modified copy of your bot to work for Greek, as we would need it to do almost exactly the same thing. Thanks very much for your time.
