Etymology[edit]

From Old Norse Víkingsstaðir m pl, from the male given name Víkingr +‎ staðr (place, stead). For the Bindal farm, this is attested in the form Vikingstadom m pl (dative), and the farm in Nærøysund is most likely of the same origin. Doublet of Vikingstad, a farm in Torvastad on the island of Karmøy.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (Bindal, Nærøysund) IPA(key): /²vi(ː)çista/
