Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Old Swedish Hwitaridh. Debated origin. By surface analysis, vitta + ryd.
- First half may be derived from Old Swedish Hvite (“a male name”). It may also be derived from Old Swedish hviter (“white”) of unkown reason.[1]
- Second half might be ryd (“clearing”). It may also come from rör (“cairn”), if so it might refer to the Vittaryd labyrinth.[1]
