I have a question: "spelling" usually refers to letters, so that a difference only in punctuation (see for example et. al) does not constitute a "misspelling". Is it agreed-upon that the latter should be classified as misspellings, if only for practicality? And if so, could it be made more clear in this article, and this documentation page?__Gamren (talk) 15:31, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
I have an example of a word being a clearly non-typo misspelling, failing Wiktionary:Misspellings#Absence_from_Google_Ngram_Viewer, but meeting WT:ATTEST and a multi-decade history: Haicanwei, as a misspelling of Haishenwei/Haishenwai. It may be an "anomalous spelling" but I don't kow what that would mean. I would argue that despite this, the word may be significant enough to keep, especially since it appears in other languages- Citations:Haicanwei. It is likely to happen again and again in coming decades and also may "serve the purpose of tracking the misspelling for corpus miners." --Geographyinitiative (talk) 11:26, 12 August 2023 (UTC) (Modified)
