Rationale[edit]

Some people in Wiktionary:Beer_parlour/2014/July#User:JackBot supported the bot for interwiki. Interwiki seems easy and harmless enough (though not without caveats) that if things start going wrong, the bot can be temporarily blocked until the issue is solved and then resumed. --Dan Polansky (talk) 20:36, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Other bot work[edit]

This was on the vote page:

This bot is also able to add some links with the other sister projects. Please mention if it could be interesting too.

Is this something we want to authorize the bot for as well? --Dan Polansky (talk) 20:38, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

PS: the script for the French sister projects is here w:fr:Utilisateur:JackBot/Autres_projets.py. JackPotte (talk) 20:42, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we want this. This is something we usually do by hand. --WikiTiki89 20:45, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, if it becomes useful (eg: since Wikivoyage) please let me know. JackPotte (talk) 16:51, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Irrelevant links are often added: this bot does not take captalization into account. Lmaltier (talk) 16:35, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Actually it could thanks to the Wikipedia bold title, quoted in each first paragraph. JackPotte (talk) 19:11, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This is the reason why it adds irrelevant links. A bot cannot do this work correctly, it's impossible, because it should understand whether the Wikipedia title should be uncapitalized or not, which seems impossible. Lmaltier (talk) 06:07, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That does not work when the title is at the beginning of a sentence. --WikiTiki89 19:21, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. And even in the middle of the sentence, the title word is often capitalized. Lmaltier (talk) 20:33, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
