Etymology[edit]
Named after Nicholas Young by James Cook, captain of HMS Endeavour, as a reward for sighting the headland on 6 October 1769. It is unclear whether "Young" refers to Nick's young age or to his surname, or is a combination of both.

- A headland on the south side of Poverty Bay, on the east coast of the North Island, New Zealand.
