Etymology[edit]

From Common Turkic *āgna- (to wallow), ultimately from Common Turkic *āg- (to rise; to climb over, overcome). Cognate with Azerbaijani ağnamaq, Turkmen āgynamak, Kazakh аунау (aunau), Southern Altai аҥдар- (aŋdar-, wallow), Karakhanid [script needed] (agnamaq), etc.
