French[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from English backhouse.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /be.kɔs/
  • (file)

Noun[edit]

bécosses f pl (plural only)

  1. (Quebec, plural only) outhouse toilets
  2. (Quebec, colloquial, plural only) Toilets in general, especially outdoor or makeshift ones

Usage notes[edit]

While the singular bécosse is found, the plural is more common, if only because "aller à" is normally followed by the plural for both toilette and bécosse
