From 𒂍 (bīt, house) +‎ 𒁾𒁀 (ṭuppim, of the tablet), literally tablet house. Compare Biblical Hebrew בַּיִת (báyiṯ, house; school) and Mishnaic Hebrew בֵּית סֵפֶר (beṯ séfɛr, school, literally book house). Compare the formation Persian دبستان (dabestân).
