Etymology[edit]

Element các is from Proto-Mon-Khmer *kʔaak ~ *kʔaik (crow; to caw), wherefrom also Proto-Vietic *ʔaːk (crow) > ác (crow).

Element bồ is found in several birds' names like bồ cốc (cormorant), bồ nông (pelican), bồ chao (white-crested laughingthrush), bồ cắt (falcon), bồ câu (dove, pigeon).
