From Proto-Albanian *baskā, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰask- (bundle). Cognate to Ancient Greek φάσκωλος (pháskōlos, leathern bag, sack), Ancient Macedonian βάσκιοι (báskioi, fasces, bundle), Latin fascis (band, bundle), Middle Irish basc (collar, neck chain).
