Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *burdā, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰr̥dʰo (compare English board, Lithuanian bartà). Alternatively a derivative of PIE *bʰer- (to carry, bear) (cf. with Old English byrd (burden), German Bürde (burden, weight), Icelandic byrði (burden)).
