English[edit]

Noun[edit]

cover price (plural cover prices)

  1. (publishing) The price of a publication, such as a book, newspaper or magazine, traditionally shown on the cover.
    • 2021 September 22, John Potter tells Paul Stephen, “Your guide to Europe”, in RAIL, number 940, page 65:
Potter acknowledges that the £20.99 cover price for the print edition may seem quite high to some people.

Usage notes[edit]

With books, the cover price can be shown inside the cover or on the flap of the dust cover, or on the back cover instead of the front. With the advent of barcodes, cover prices are now sometimes omitted, or shown on a stick-on label.
