Romanian [edit]

Etymology [edit]

It is agreed to be from Proto-Indo-European *del- (to split, carve, cut), but whether it is a substratum word, akin to Albanian daltë, or an early loan from Proto-Slavic *dolto (compare e.g. Slovak dlato) is disputed.

Noun [edit]

daltă f (plural dălți)

  1. chisel
