English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From ego- +‎ -phile.

Noun[edit]

egophile (plural egophiles)

  1. Someone characterised by excessively high self-esteem or who is obsessively enamoured with themselves.
    • 1970, John H. Scanzoni, Opportunity and the Family, page 100:
[] whatever the level of rewards he or she is receiving, if one is an egophobe it is quite probable that he will tend to underrate them and to perceive the reciprocal relationship as less satisfactory than would someone in the same type of situation who is an egophile (Rosenberg's term for a person with high self-esteem).
