Etymology[edit]

From Old Swedish forena, förena, from Middle Low German vorenen and German vereinen. Cognate with Norwegian Bokmål forene, Norwegian Nynorsk sameine, sameina (only -eine/eina), Danish forene, Icelandic sameina (only -eina), Dutch verenigen, vereenigen, Limburgish vereinige. Equivalent to för- +‎ ena.
