Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *frikā, possibly from Ancient Greek φρίκη (phríkē, shivering, shuddering) but the semantic area is more uncommon for Ancient Greek loans in Albanian. Assumption of a loan from Byzantine Greek φρίκη (phríkē) seems implausible, because velar followed by front vowel would be palatalized. Otherwise from Proto-Indo-European *(s)pr̥k-éh₂, from Proto-Indo-European *pr̥k- yet this would be the only s-mobile of the root.
