gastric mill (plural gastric mills)

  1. An organ in the gastrointestinal tract of some animals, particularly crustaceans, which contains dentition, that is used to grind food. The gnashing of the teeth/plates in the mill is also used by some of the creatures to create audible growling, as a form of communication.
