Etymology[edit]

This is similar to a receipt (produced by a store and presented to a purchaser as proof of purchase) but meant to passed to the purchased item's later, third-party recipient: that way, the recipient can return the gift to the store as needed, but does not immediately know the price that the purchaser paid.
