The golden section is a line segment sectioned into two according to the golden ratio. The total length a + b is to the longer segment a as a is to the shorter segment b.

the golden section (uncountable)

  1. (geometry) the division of a whole into two parts such that the ratio of the smaller part to the larger is equal to the ratio of the larger part to the whole.
