halfway covenant (plural halfway covenants)

  1. (Christianity, historical) A form of partial church membership adopted by the Puritan-controlled Congregational churches of colonial New England in the 1660s, allowing baptized but unconverted parents to present their own children for baptism, but denying them the other privileges of church membership.
