From Ottoman Turkish هركس (herkes), from Persian هرکس (harkas), from هر (har, “each, every”) + کس (kas, “person”). See Azerbaijani hər kəs.
Pronunciation[edit]
Almost exclusively pronounced with a final [z]. herkez is an extremely common misspelling among native speakers.
