Etymology[edit]

From Middle Dutch ieder, jeder, from Old Dutch *iowether, *iother. A compound of io (always) (from Proto-Germanic *aiw) + wether (whether) (from Proto-Germanic *hwaþeraz). Cognate with English either, German jeder.
