Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish قنطارجی (kantarcı, “weight-master”). By surface analysis, kantar (“steelyard”) + -cı.

kantarcı (definite accusative kantarcıyı, plural kantarcılar)
- maker or seller of steelyards or similar instruments
- the official who collects weighing taxes from goods brought to bazaars or markets
