From Old Swedish kæke, probably borrowed from Middle Low German kêke, from Old Saxon *kioka, from Proto-West Germanic *keukā.

Cognate with Danish kiæge, Norwegian kjake, English chokecheek (from Old English ċēoce (jaw)).
