Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Catalan lombrigol, from Vulgar Latin *umbilīculus (with /l-/ via agglutination from a definite article), diminutive of Latin umbilīcus. For the influence of preceding determiners, cf. French nombril and Romanian buric.
