From Proto-Celtic *lukotes (compare Cornish logos, Breton logod), plural of *lukōts (compare Welsh llyg ‘shrew’, Old Breton loc, Irish luch), from Proto-Indo-European *peluko (compare Polish pilch, Wakhi pürk), enlargement of *pelios (compare Lithuanian pelė̃), from *pel- ‘grey’ (compare Welsh llwyd).
