From Ottoman Turkish مستحضر (müstahzar, asked, ordered, remembered), from Arabic مُسْتَحْضَر (mustaḥḍar), passive participle of اِسْتَحْضَرَ (istaḥḍara, to ask, summon; to recall). The noun sense evolved from an older adjectival sense.
