[edit]From Turkish makreme, from Arabic مِقْرَمَة (miqrama, “ornamental fringe, embroidered veil”), from مِقْرَم (miqram, “bedspread”), from قَرَمَ (qarama, “to gnaw”), from Proto-Semitic *q-r-m.[1]
