Romanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Perhaps from a Dacian *mādzula, from Proto-Indo-European *meh₂ǵʰ-ulo ('a small bean'). Compare Aromanian madzãre; see also the related Albanian modhull. Alternatively, the Romanian may be derived from the Albanian word, perhaps an early borrowing that underwent several sound shifts.
